Who we are

acusmagic.com is operated by Zaplab (VAT IT 03893420541, Italy), the engineering studio behind the AcusMagic brand. Zaplab is the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: the contact form or hello@acusmagic.com.

What we collect, and why

Account data (email, display name, password hash) — only if you create an account, to let you sign in. Passwords are stored hashed; we never see them in clear text.

Email subscriptions — if you request the demo or the Codex, your email address is stored and processed through MailerLite (our mailing provider) and added to our mailing list, and we email your download link right away. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.

Purchases — purchases are processed through Stripe Managed Payments, acting as Merchant of Record. Payment details go to Stripe, not to AcusMagic; Zaplab receives the customer and order data needed to issue and manage the license (see Stripe’s privacy policy). License activations are managed by Zaplab.

Technical logs — the web server keeps short-lived error logs (IP, URL, time) for security and debugging.

Inside the instruments — two requests, and only these two, leave the software. License refresh: an activated copy silently re-verifies its license at most once every 24 hours when online, sending the pseudonymous machine identifier, the device name, operating system and CPU architecture, product and version, and the IP address inherent to any request. It is designed to fail open: a missed refresh never disables a licensed copy. Update check: once a day the instrument asks our licensing server whether a newer version exists, sending the product and version, the operating system and CPU architecture, the same pseudonymous machine identifier and the license state (demo, trial or licensed); it receives a version number, short release notes and a link. The update check is on by default, the instrument tells you once when it first opens, and you can switch it off at any time in OPTIONS → GENERAL → UPDATES (a manual “check now” stays available). A demo copy with the update check switched off opens no connection at all. There is no telemetry, analytics or usage tracking in the software beyond these two requests. Legal basis: performance of the license contract (refresh, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and our legitimate interest in delivering security and compatibility updates (update check, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Both are processed by Zaplab on its own servers in the EU.

What we do NOT do

No advertising trackers, no third-party analytics scripts, no selling or sharing of your data for marketing. Fonts are served from our own server. If we ever add a measurement pixel, it will load only after your explicit consent. The instruments never send your projects, presets, audio or how you play: see “Inside the instruments” above for the two requests they do make.

Cookies

We use one essential session cookie (sign-in state) and one preference cookie (your cookie choice). Neither tracks you across other sites.

Your rights (GDPR)

You can export your account data or close your account from your AcusMagic account; the secure operation is completed by Zaplab without copying licensing or purchase data into AcusMagic. You can request correction or further assistance via the contact form. We answer within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority (in Italy, the Garante).

Retention

Account data: until deletion, subject to security and legal retention. Pending newsletter requests expire after 24 hours; confirmed mailing-list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Order and invoice data is retained for the period required by applicable tax law. Activation and update-check records are kept while the license is active and for up to 24 months after the last contact from that machine, then deleted or anonymised.
